Port Charlotte "PC 8"

Le whisky fut produit jusqu'en 1929 dans le village de Port Charlotte, sur l'île d'Islay.

C'est pour rendre hommage à celui-ci qu'à l'époque, en 2006, le célèbre Jim McEwan introduit cette nouvelle référence sur le marché, un whisky tourbé âgé de 5 ans et proposé à un haut volume d'alcool, le PC 5.

Ce PC 5 sera produit à seulement 6000 exemplaires.

Je n'étais pas encore un adepte du whisky à l'époque, je n'ai jamais eu l'occasion ni de le goûter et encore moins de m'en offrir une, donc sans regret.

Mais j'ai la chance d'avoir pu mettre au fil des années, la main sur d'autres versions, bouteilles que j'ai décidé d'ouvrir sachant que je ne pourrai ensuite plus jamais m'en procurer d'autres.

Mais le whisky comme les hommes n'est pas voué à l'éternité. 

Cette quatrième édition rend particulièrement hommage aux anciens de la péninsule d'Islay. 

L'Ecosse est chargée de son histoire, ses îles à plus forte raison et leurs habitants particulièrement attachés à la transmission de celle-ci.

A mi chemin entre réel et imaginaire, le whisky d'Islay semble appartenir à un monde magique ou même un chapelier un peu fou eut pu devenir distillateur.

Ar Dùthchas se traduit difficilement, mais exprime l'appartenance à une terre, un clan, une lignée, un héritage. (Je vous propose de lire l'article que j'ai trouvé, rédigé sur www.clanjames.com).

Nez : Il sent le barbecue, le poivron cuit, des herbes grillées. Notes d'armoire à pharmacie. Maritime, profond, sans artifice. Herbes aromatiques fraîchement coupées. La texture est huileuse à souhait, une suie huileuse, avec du réglisse. il y a au loin également un soupçon de citron confit, accentué par un apport d'eau et rejoint par du sucre d'orge.

Bouche : Puissante, franche. Huileuse. La tourbe est terreuse. Elle laisse une grande place au côté maritime, saumure. Il y a à nouveau beaucoup d'herbes aromatiques. Consommé par petite lampée il est même plutôt doux, avec ce côté sucre de canne. Du poivre. L'eau l'adoucit complètement, même en faible quantité. Elle casse d'un certain point de vue l'expérience, mais en offre une tout autre. Un retour comme pour le nez au même moment sur du citron confit, du sucre d'orge, du réglisse. Toujours de cette suie huileuse, goudronneuse. 

Finale : Longue et huileuse. Boisée et toujours autant inspirée par l'océan. Persistance interminable de cette même huile de suie. Ce whisky c'est AC / DC au violoncelle.

Un whisky sans chipotage, profondément terrien, avec un regard sur le large lointain.

But I am lucky to have been able to put over the years, the hand on other versions, bottles that I decided to open knowing that I will then never be able to get any more.

But whisky like men is not dedicated to eternity.

This fourth edition pays special tribute to the elders of the Islay Peninsula.

Scotland is in charge of its history, its islands even more so and its inhabitants particularly attached to the transmission of this one.

Halfway between real and imaginary, Islay whisky seems to belong to a magical world or even a hatter a little crazy could have become a distiller.

Ar Duthchas is difficult to translate in french, but expresses belonging to a land, a clan, a lineage, an inheritance. (I suggest you read the article I found, written on www.clanjames.com).

Nose: It smells of barbecue, cooked pepper, grilled herbs. Medicine cabinet notes. Maritime, deep, without artifice. Freshly cut aromatic herbs. The texture is oily to perfection, oily soot, with liquorice. in the distance there is also a hint of candied lemon, accentuated by a supply of water and joined by barley sugar.

Palate: Powerful, frank. Oily. The peat is earthy. It leaves a great place to the maritime side, brine. There are again many aromatic herbs. Consumed by a small swig it is even rather sweet, with this side sugar cane. Pepper. Water softens it completely, even in small quantities. It breaks the experience from a certain point of view, but offers a completely different experience. A return as for the nose at the same time on candied lemon, barley sugar, liquorice. Always this oily, tarry soot.

Final: Long and oily. Woody and always inspired by the ocean. Endless persistence of this same soot oil. This whisky is AC / DC cello.
